Motivation, What’s That?

Give yourself some grace!

Give yourself some grace!

When I say that my motivation is low, I mean so low that I didn’t put on real clothes (not jeans) until around 3:00 pm today. With everything going on with this pandemic and especially with all of the opinions surrounding opening schools, my motivation to do even the basics such as changing out of my pajamas has been at an all time low.

I decided to write this blog post to let others know that it is okay if your motivation has also diminished. We are living in a bizarre time right now where nothing is ‘normal’ and everything is an extenuating circumstance. Even getting toilet paper is difficult! Right now your priority should be taking care of yourself and giving yourself grace for not accomplishing everything on your to do list.

Sometimes I’m hard on myself for not using this time to accomplish more. For years I have always felt that I didn’t have enough time to do certain things like read a new book or get that extra certification for school. Now all of a sudden I have the time, but have zero motivation to do any of it. I have to remind myself that having extra time a year ago is different than having extra time during a pandemic. I have to remind myself not to give myself a hard time because what is all of that shaming really doing for me? Nothing good!

For those who are reading this that are also giving themselves a hard time, stop! Take it from someone who does the exact same thing, it’s not doing you any favors and it’s not benefiting you in the slightest. Give yourself grace for getting through the day. Your worth is not measured by how much you accomplish today, so don’t worry if your motivation is low or almost completely non existent like mine.

My current goal is to accomplish one thing a day. Some days that is working out or going for a walk and other days that is getting dressed in real clothes before noon. Even just accomplishing one thing helps me feel better about my day. I don’t need to attempt to complete my never ending to do list and neither do you! During this pandemic, we need to give ourselves more grace and worry less about trying to get it all done.
